A great choice for a large cottage-style border or mingled in with soft ornamental grasses for a trendy, low-maintenance prairie look. Not only is it great in the garden, but it makes a great late-season cut flower too. Coneflowers prefer a deep, fertile soil and will benefit from the addition of some well rotted manure or garden compost to soil, prior to planting. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season until coneflower plants are fully established. Deadhead faded Echinacea flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. In autumn, cut back faded flower stems and apply a mulch of well rotted manure to the base of the plant. Divide overcrowded plants in autumn or spring.
