Wisteria frutescens 'Amethyst Falls' is a compact, hardy climber with cascading, fragrant lilac-blue flower clusters that bring elegance and perfume to your summer garden. Unlike more vigorous types, this American dwarf variety is ideal for smaller spaces, growing to a mature height of around 5m (16') and a spread of 3m (9'). Perfect for training along sunny walls, pergolas, or growing in large containers. Its prolific flowering habit produces pendants of beautifully scented blooms that evoke the charm of classic cottage gardens. The plant thrives in well-drained soil with good sun exposure and benefits from a sheltered position to protect early flower buds from frost. How to Grow: Plant in moist, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Add well-rotted manure or compost before planting. Provide strong support for the twining stems, such as wires or a trellis. Water and feed regularly until established. Aftercare: Mulch in autumn or spring with compost or manure. Prune twice yearly—first in July to shorten current year’s growth, and again in February to shape and control size. During the first two years, focus on training a strong framework by tying in lateral shoots and removing excess growth. Caution: The flowers are the only edible part of the plant and have a perfumed flavour. All other parts are toxic if ingested.
