Thompson & Morgan Thompson & Morgan Cercis Chinensis Avondale 9cm Pot x 2, Multi

This handsome Cercis is a real talking point, with glossy foliage that provides an attractive canopy throughout summer. Awarded an RHS Award of Garden Merit for its garden performance, 'Avondale' is the perfect choice for small gardens, where this deciduous plant’s bushy habit lends itself to being trained as either a shrub or small tree – it is so compact that it will be very happy in a large pot for many years. The bare shoots become covered in small clusters of deep purple-pink, pea-like flowers in April and May each year, creating a delightful display before the leaves emerge. The foliage is rich-green and heart-shaped, offering a great foil for other plants throughout the summer, before turning buttery-yellow before they drop in autumn. Grow Cercis in rich fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Choose a position in full sun or dappled shade. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the soil to improve its structure and fertility. Plant Eastern Redbud trees at the same soil level as they were growing at the nursery. Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
